Guinea Pig FAQ's (GPG)
*See bottom of post for author & source*
1. Will my two males fight?
No, unless one is an adolescent (4 to 8 months), they should get along fine as long as you introduce them properly. Once in awhile there will be two or more guinea pigs who cannot stand each other and need to be separated permanently, but usually there is a reason (that can be fixed) that would cause such behavior.
2. What's fleece?
A fabric used for bedding rather than litter. Fleece wicks the urine to a second absorbent layer and in that way the surface remains dry.
3. What is a "C&C cage"?
It stands for Cubes and Coroplast (corrugated plastic), a cage that is the only recommended for guinea pigs, it's a large cage yet neat unlike most large cages. The cubes are made into any shape and the coroplast (just like plastic cardboard) is shaped to fit the cubes, keeping litter, pigs, and poos inside.
4. Where can I get a guinea pig?
Adopt a guinea pig from your local shelter, Humane Society, or private owner who cannot care for that guinea pig. Pet stores are a BIG no-no. www.petsmartcruelty.com suns it all up for you.
5. What are the guinea pig necessities?
Hay, healthy vegetables, guinea pig foods without colored bits, or seeds, water bottle with metal sipper, ceramic food bowl, C&C cage, and bedding. Huts are optional, some guinea pigs are so skittish that they stay in their huts unless there is fresh food or no light on, therefore it would be better without a hut (unless you just adopted the GP). If you feel your house is loud or stressful, by all means give your guinea pig somewhere to hide and destress.
