Breeds, Colors, and Patterns of Guinea Pigs - (GPG)
*See bottom of post for author & source*
I've put together a list of guinea pig breeds, colors, and patterns. If I have missed any, please post below and I will add whatever you suggested. I've provided as many links as possible.
Breeds
-Satin guinea pigs reflect light differently because of their hollow hair shafts, but their lustrous coat and sheen come at a price. Medical problems--
-Teddy guinea pigs do not have guard hairs therefore all of their hair is erect all over the body. Because of their curly whiskers it is hard for them to detect hiding places and they are usually more skittish than other breeds--
-Abyssinian guinea pigs have hair as long as 1.5 inches, 8 to 12 rosettes throughout the body, harsh fur that stays in rosettes--
-Marked guinea pigs are often mistaken as Abby's. Marked guinea pigs have just as rough hair but only have 10 rosettes that are placed two one the rear, one on each hip, one on each shoulder and four on the saddle--picture needed
-Rex guinea pigs are related to Teddy guinea pigs but have curlier, thicker hair, erect all over the body--
-White Crested guinea pigs have one rosette on the top of their head between their ears that is always white--
-English Crested guinea pigs have the same top crest on their head but it is the same color as the guinea pig or guinea pigs head--
-Texel guinea pigs are a cross between Rex and Silkie guinea pigs. They have curly to wavy hair, long, without bangs--
-Silkie guinea pigs have long hair that does not grow into their face, short facial hair--
-Peruvian guinea pigs have long hair that grows in front of their faces--
-Coronet guinea pigs have long hair with short facial hair. Have one crest on the top of their head--
