-----G----- Empty GREASE GLAND

Post  Admin Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:09 am

#1
"Boars, & Sows have a grease gland at the base of their rumps, which sometimes seems to over produce, making the fur on the rear end very greasy. This grease can attract parasites, so it is a good idea to keep the grease gland clean."

#2
"The grease gland in a guinea pig is located just above where a tail would be (if cavies had a tail). " This source shows how to clean the grease gland."

"This is very important in guinea pig behaviour. Some like it around the nose, some under their chins, most around their ears and on the tops of their heads."

Bathing

"Cavies are very clean creatures, needing little grooming from their owners (with the exception of Peruvians and Silkies, who have extremely long hair)."

Nail Trimming

"Guinea Pig's toenails, are like their teeth, continue to grow their entire lives. You have to trim them occasionally using a set of human nail clippers."

-----G----- Empty GRUMPY GUINEA PIGS

Post  Admin Thu Mar 19, 2009 6:17 am

"Occasionally, you will come across a guinea pig who is not sociable with humans, or guinea pigs. Try to win it over, but after a few months it remains stubborn, then respect its wishes not to be handled."

"Liquid Oral Medication is generally administered in a 1cc needleless syringe, in the correct measured amounts. Shaking the medication will help ensure the active ingredient is in suspension."
