"ABSCESSES IN GUINEA PIGS
An abscess is pus that has been formed from dead tissue cells after an injury. Now that injury has become infected by germs."

#2
"An abscess is a collection of pus that has accumulated in a cavity formed by the tissue on the basis of an infectious process (usually caused by bacteria or parasites) or other foreign materials (e.g. splinters, bullet wounds, or injecting needles). It is a defensive reaction of the tissue to prevent the spread of infectious materials to other parts of the body."

-----A----- Empty Anal Impaction

Post  Admin Sun Mar 15, 2009 5:44 am

#1
"Guinea pigs eat certain faecal pellets. These pellets, which are taken from the perineal sac are seldom seen for the simple reason that the animal does not excrete them. You will often see a guinea pig, head down hard between it's back legs, rummaging like mad, and taking one of these pellets from the sac."

FOR MORE INFORMATION -- http://www.oginet.com/pgurney/analimpact.htm
(this source does not show how to clean the anal sac)

#2
"Older boars may develop a condition called impaction. The muscles of these guinea pigs have weakened and they are no longer able to expel the soft caecal pellets that accumulate in the perineal sack."

-----A----- Empty ARKS

Post  Admin Wed Mar 18, 2009 3:24 am

"These are great for allowing guinea pigs to get out onto the lawn during the summer and have a great time grazing or lazing in the sun. Most are ark shaped in that they are triangular wooden frames covered by wire mesh and with one end left uncovered, which are placed onto the grass." Make sure that there is a sheltered area at one end to give the guinea pigs some shade from the sun.

"These should never be left unattended, or out of sight of owners. Leaving them outside if only for a minute is very dangerous. "

If the pig remains on a drug it is intolerant to, the results could be fatal. "
